About Us

We are a small family Pixie Bob cattery located in Fairbanks, Alaska. We breed old Pacific Northwest lines of Pixie-Bobs; straight back to StoneIsland Pixie herself. Our Pixie-Bobs all live inside our home, where they are raised underfoot and on laps. They never live in cages or runs. The Pixie bob Kittens and Moms are raised on the main floor of the house which includes the Family Room, Kitchen, Dining Room and our children’s rooms. Our Queens live downstairs which includes the Library, Living Room, and Master Bedroom Suite. Our Pixie-bob King Bodhi lives in the large Main Floor Bath– where he has climbing shelves on the walls, a cat house, and gets lots of visits throughout the day (New Meaning to Lap Cat!).

Our family includes myself, Jen; my husband, Dave; our 13 year old daughter; and 12 year old son; as well as all the Pixie Bob family members. I am a stay at home mom and home-school my children, so the Pixie Bobs have lots of social interaction throughout the day. We moved to Alaska about three years ago, when Dave retired from the US Navy. We spent twenty years being stationed all over the world, moving every couple of years. We love it here in Fairbanks. I named our TICA Registered Cattery Alaskan Sky Pixie Bobs because Alaska has the most beautiful skies anywhere. The Northern lights in the winter, and awesome sunset painted skies all night in the summer. The Pixie-Bobs we breed will be named after beautiful things in our skies: stars, moons, planets, etc. your suggestions are welcome.

Pixie Bob Breeding Philosophy and Ethics

We believe that the primary reason for breeding Pixie-Bob cats is to preserve, protect and promote these exceptional cats by giving special consideration to the genetic and physical health of the breeding queens and stud cats, with special attention to their temperament. We are dedicated to breeding and improving our cats to preserve the Pixie Bob breed standard. These wild looking cats are only available to persons who cherish their great beauty, loyalty, and personality as well as excellent general health and longevity. For us, as Pixie Bob breeders, this means careful selection of dams and sires to ensure that the kittens will be highest quality pets; healthy, genetically sound, people-oriented, and conforming to the breed standards of the Pixie-Bob.

We have entered into the breeding of Pixie-Bobs out of love of this now very rare type of cat, and personal enjoyment of helping to find the right potential homes for the kittens and cats. The potential buyers, like us, love and understand the special traits of the Pixie-Bob cats. To ensure that inappropriate adoptions do not happen, potential buyers are screened.

Our Pixie Bob kittens will be spayed/neutered before they are delivered, unless other arrangements have been made. Breeder quality kittens are only sold to ethical Pixie-bob breeders who agree to follow the same ethical guidelines on breeding that we practice.

We Have Set the Following Guidelines for Our Pixie Bob Cattery

1. Ample quarters are provided for the Pixie Bob stud males within the home. They are not caged.

2. Feeding and housing of all cats and kittens are adequate and safe. Our Pixie-bob queens are not caged, they are housed in rooms within our spacious home, and they are part of our family.

3. We are knowledgeable about the care of our felines in sickness and in health, as newborn babies and as geriatrics. We are continuously reading, researching and inquiring cat health and genetics issues in order to make us competent practitioners in the art and science of Traditional Cat Breeding.

4. None of our Pixie bob cats ever goes outdoors except in a carrier, a fully enclosed playpen or on a leash. We require that our buyers do the same when they adopt a Pixie Bob kitten/cat from us.

5. In addition to being tested for FeLV and FIV, and also having been immunized with the usual course of vaccinations, every new cat or kitten we acquire is quarantined, fully away from all other cats for at least two weeks, before being introduced into the cattery. Thereafter, testing and vaccination is done on an annual basis for queens and on a bi-annual basis for stud cats.

6. All of our rooms are kept very clean. Litter boxes are kept clean at all times, and there are enough litter boxes to provide one litter box per cat. There are no obnoxious odors present in our home. We have a separate pantry in the kitchen that is used to store food and needed cattery supplies.

7. Stainless steel or glass water and food dishes are kept meticulously clean, filled with fresh water and fresh food. Plastic dishes can cause allergies in some Cats.

8. Our pixie bob queens are bred no more often than once or twice a year. They are kept in tip-top shape by offering the best food, veterinary care and freedom from stress.

9. Retired Pixie Bob queens and studs are either kept as our own dear pets or placed in a loving home with someone who seeks an older, sweet-tempered lap cat rather than a kitten. These persons are carefully selected to ensure both cat and new owner will make a good adjustment. Follow-up calls are made to check on the process of settling in, to help it go well.

10. Pixie bob Kittens are given their shots at 8 & 11 weeks, before they leave, at the age of 12-14 weeks, to go to new homes. They are wormed and litter-trained and well socialized, by lots of human handling.

11. We are here 24 hours a day for the life of your Pixie bob to answer any and all questions, share advice and suggestions. No question is ever not important. If it’s important to you at 3am please call!

12. We will take back any Pixie bob cat sold from Alaskan Sky Pixie Bobs Cattery, rather than have it go to a shelter, if the owner is required to give up the cat for some unavoidable reason. We promise to find a new home for such a cat, with suitable persons, should the need arise.
